Producing high-quality beef is important to Jonathon and Katie Wantoch. Alongside their three young children, the Wantoch family raises Charolais cattle among the rolling hills of Colfax, Wisconsin, near the banks of the Red Cedar River.

Promoting the quality of Charolais beef is the number one focus for J/K Ranch, while transparency and honesty are values that Jon and Katie emphasize.

“We believe consumers should know exactly what they are getting for a product when it comes from our ranch,” Jon said, ensuring he sells exclusively choice and prime beef to his customers.

Both Jon and Katie grew up on Wisconsin dairy farms and wanted to share those experiences with their children. In 2013, J/K Ranch was established, and today they oversee a herd of more than 100 head of cattle.

In addition to producing beef for the US consumer, the Wantochs also sell their beef directly to consumers and locally to Reclaimed Tavern Bar and Grill in Stanley, WI, where J/K Charolais is the exclusive beef supplier.

Spreading the word about Charolais to other ranchers is important to Jon. “We fell in love with the disposition of the breed,” Jon said. “They’re calmer, quieter, and a more peaceful breed.”

Sustainability is also a core value to Jon, putting his passion into action by serving on the Red Cedar Watershed board and promoting water conservation, cover crops, and soil health, just to name a few.
